Music and dancing are among the oldest art forms which nearly every culture has used both to celebrate life through art, to honor important occasions, and to communicate with the realm of spirit. At Toisan Cafeteria and Tourist Center in Cotacachi, Ecuador, a late afternoon performance was enjoyed by a small group which grew as passersby drawn in by the music stopped to join them. Chaquiñan band from the high land community of Morochos performed traditional Andean music and had time on stage, people clapping, dancing, and even getting onstage to take photos with the band. Circle on the Square extends special thanks to Apauki , the manager of Toisan for hosting this special occasion, and our gratitude to Antonio Jerez, band leader, and all the guys in the band for sharing their music.
