Cotacachi is celebrating the feast of La Jora. Jora is a unique drink made from germinated kernels of specific local types of corn. During the festival are all manner of festivities including dancers, food, the coronation of the Queen of Cotacachi (something like a local Miss America), a horse parade, fancy riding, and horses trained in paso fino, bull ring entertainment (no bulls or people are harmed), and fun for all spread over a couple of weeks in September. The photo shows some of the colorful dancers in Parque Matriz on Saturday morning.
I didn’t realize that they had a festival dedicated to Jora…which i recall we all drank after seeing the shamana during our trip in September 2011, i think i got the year right…know i got the month correct. LOL
