Two Cuties

There is a much natural beauty in Ecuador.  The rugged and sometimes snow covered peaks, the extraordinary terrain of a land with many volcanoes, the flora and vegetation are just a few of them. I am always moved by the faces of Ecuadorian children. The two little girls pictured here are granddaughters of an elderly weaver living in an indigenous community.  If you visit Ecuador be sure to take time to visit the indigenous people who have the longest history in the region and still keep their ancestral ways of living including the Kichwa language,  traditional dress, hand crafts, and customs...

Photo Opp!

Hey, when you’ve been clapping, dancing, and enjoying your self at a concert what’s left to do to top it all off but jump onstage and get a few photos with the band!  These guys didn’t hold back at the Chasquiñan concert at Toisan Cafeteria and Tourist Center in Cotacachi, Ecuador.  The band members were incredibly good sports about all of this revelry and let the guys pose with their instruments as they got others to take photos which will undoubtedly end up on more than a few Facebook posts.

Music and Dance

Music and dancing are among the oldest art forms which nearly every culture has used both to celebrate life through art, to honor important occasions, and to communicate with the realm of spirit. At Toisan Cafeteria and Tourist Center in Cotacachi, Ecuador, a late afternoon performance was enjoyed by a small group which grew as passersby drawn in by the music stopped to join them.  Chaquiñan band from the high land community of Morochos performed traditional Andean music and had time on stage, people clapping, dancing, and even getting onstage to take photos with the band.  Circle on the...

Pancakes for Water

Pancakes for Water

Circle on the Square undertook organizing a pancake breakfast in order to help raise funds for completion a much needed water irrigation project in the community La Calera. The breakfast was held Sunday October 6 at Solid Rock Restaurant and  with some very generous donors and many pancake eaters, we collected over $400 and we have been promised more to come soon.  Three ladies from La Calera worked hard to prepare the plates with a sumptuous serving of cut papaya, watermelon and banana which looked beautiful alongside Santiago’s golden fluffy pancakes.
